Office Glazing Clerkenwell

Office Glazing Clerkenwell

We supply and fit office glazing in Clerkenwell, from new windows and glass doors to whole glazed fronts for office blocks, business parks and offices above shops. This page is for business owners, landlords and facilities managers who want brighter, quieter and warmer work space without shutting the office for weeks.

We explain the window and glass options, the rules that apply to offices, what drives the cost and how we work round your staff. Our fitters are FENSA registered, and every job carries a 10-year guarantee. For other building types, see our commercial glazing page, or our double glazing home page for homes.

Why Office Glazing Matters

Windows shape how an office feels. Old frames let in draughts and road noise. Single glazing makes desks near the glass cold in winter and hot in summer. Staff end up with heaters under desks and fans on the sills.

New glazing fixes these problems at the source. Good glass lets in daylight but holds back heat and glare. Tight seals keep the cold and the noise out. Windows that open with care let in fresh air without making the room cold.

For landlords, glazing also affects the value of the building. Tenants look at running costs and comfort. Old windows can also pull down the Energy Performance Certificate rating, and the minimum energy rules for let commercial buildings are set to rise.

Window and Door Options for Offices

We fit a full range of frames and styles for offices:

  • Aluminium windows: slim, strong and long-lasting. They suit modern offices and come in any RAL colour.
  • uPVC windows: a lower cost choice for small offices and conversions, with good heat retention.
  • Steel-look aluminium: thin black frames with glazing bars, for a loft or warehouse style.
  • Tilt and turn windows: tilt in for air, or swing open fully so the outside can be cleaned from inside. Useful on upper floors.
  • Top-hung and side-hung casements: simple and easy to use, with restrictors to stop them opening too wide.
  • Fixed glazing and ribbon windows: long runs of glass for the most light.
  • Entrance doors and screens: glass doors, side screens and fanlights for the front of the building.

Our aluminium doors match our window frames, so the whole front can share one colour and finish.

Choosing the Right Glass

The glass does most of the work in an office window. We match it to how the room is used and which way it faces.

  • Low-E double glazing: a thin coat on the glass keeps heat in. With argon gas in the gap, it is the standard for most offices.
  • Triple glazing: a third pane gives even better heat retention. It can make sense on north faces or in very exposed sites. Our double vs triple glazing guide compares the two.
  • Solar control glass: lets in light but blocks much of the sun's heat. It helps south and west-facing rooms that get too hot in the afternoon.
  • Acoustic glass: a laminated pane with a sound-damping layer. It is the best choice next to busy roads, railways and bus stations.
  • Safety and security glass: toughened or laminated glass for low panes, doors and ground floor windows.
  • Obscure or tinted glass: for privacy in toilets, meeting rooms and ground floor offices.

For ground floor offices, or rooms with costly kit, see our security glazing page for laminated and attack-resistant glass.

Building Regulations for Office Windows

New and replaced windows in offices must meet the Building Regulations. Approved Document L sets the limits on heat loss. In England, replacement windows in buildings other than homes must reach 1.6 W/m²K or better for the whole window. We give you the figures for each window type.

Other parts also apply:

  • Part F: rooms need enough fresh air. This may mean trickle vents in the frames or opening lights of a set size.
  • Part K: glass in low areas and doors must be safety glass, and windows above ground floor may need restrictors.
  • Part B: some windows must be big enough to escape through, or form part of a smoke vent plan.
  • Part M: controls and doors should be easy for everyone to use.

If the building is listed, or in a conservation area, you may need consent to change the windows. Check with your council before you order. We can advise on slim double glazing or secondary glazing where full change is not allowed.

What Drives the Cost of Office Glazing

We do not list set prices, as every building is different. You get a written, fixed quote after a free survey. You can book a survey on our get a quote page. These are the main things that affect the price:

  • Number and size of windows: more and bigger windows mean more cost, though larger jobs can bring the cost per window down.
  • Frame material: aluminium costs more than uPVC but lasts longer and has slimmer lines.
  • Glass spec: triple, solar control, acoustic and laminated glass each add to the price.
  • Height and access: upper floors may need scaffold, a cherry picker or a mast climber.
  • Removal and making good: taking out old steel or timber frames can take longer and may need repairs to the reveals.
  • Working hours: evening or weekend work to keep the office open adds to the labour.
  • Extras: blinds, vents, restrictors and colour finishes.

Payment stages are set out in the written quote.

Fitting Glazing Around a Working Office

Most offices cannot close for a refit, so we plan the job around your team. We can work floor by floor or room by room. We can fit in the evening, early in the morning or at the weekend. Each window is taken out and replaced the same day, so the building is never left open overnight.

We cover desks and kit with dust sheets, keep noisy work to set times and clean up at the end of each shift. A named contact keeps you up to date. The full process, from survey to aftercare, is on our how we work page.

Maintenance and Care

Modern office windows need little care. Clean the glass and frames a few times a year. Keep the drain slots at the base of the frames clear. Oil the hinges and locks once a year, and check that restrictors still work.

If a double glazed unit mists up between the panes, the seal has failed. We can replace the unit without changing the frame. If a window will not lock or drops when you open it, call us to adjust the hinges. You can find out more about our team on our about us page. If your offices are on the ground floor, our roller shutters page covers added security out of hours.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can new office glazing help our staff work better?

Good glazing makes the office more comfortable, and that helps people focus. More daylight makes rooms feel brighter. Solar control glass stops desks by the window from overheating. Acoustic glass cuts road noise. Tight seals stop cold draughts. Staff spend less time fighting the room and more time on their work.

What maintenance does office glazing need?

Clean the glass and frames a few times a year and keep the drain slots clear. Oil the hinges and locks once a year. Check that restrictors and vents still work. If a unit mists up between the panes, the seal has gone and we can swap the unit. If a window sticks or drops, we can adjust the hinges.

Will new windows cut traffic noise?

Yes. Standard double glazing already cuts noise a lot compared to old single glazing. For busy roads, railways or bus routes, acoustic laminated glass works best. Using two panes of different thickness also helps, as each pane blocks a different range of sound. Good seals round the frame matter just as much as the glass.

Is office glazing suitable for older buildings?

Yes. We fit glazing in Victorian offices, converted mills and modern blocks. Older buildings may need slim frames or steel-look aluminium to keep their look. Listed buildings and those in conservation areas may need consent. Where full change is not allowed, secondary glazing on the inside can add warmth and cut noise.

What guarantee do we get on office glazing?

Our work comes with a 10-year guarantee. It covers the frames, the sealed units and our fitting. We also register the work with FENSA where the job falls under the scheme, so you get a certificate showing it meets the Building Regulations. Keep the paperwork with your building records.
